West Side Story, Bristol Hippodrome

The latest production of West Side Story, the famous musical based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is an excellent example of a commercial musical showcasing talented singers and dancers. Showing off the beauty of this form of theatre. It just needs a basic story with romance, some rivalry to create some tension, some well known catchy songs.

It was a very enjoyable show, and met expectations. Unfortunately for me, it did not exceed expectations.

I was also slightly disappointed by the lack of information about the show. The programme was beautifully presented with photographs from dress rehearsals but absolutely no information about the cast, or production team. Leaving me wondering why they had chosen to tour West Side Story, aside from the fact that it is a well know popular show. It would have at least been nice to know a little bit more about the experience and history of the performers playing the main characters.
